2 Dreams, 2 Lessons: Discernment and Delight

A reminder for faith-driven entrepreneurs: not every light is holy, but His joy is always near.
Last night, I had two dreams back-to-back that couldn’t have been more different. They were so vivid and felt like God was teaching me on both ends of the spectrum. One was heavy and serious then the other was light and full of joy. Together, they gave me a clear reminder about life, faith, and the way we build our businesses.
Dream One: The Shiny Shortcut
In the first dream, I saw two women leaving a party. One of them was forced off course by this guy they had just met. At first, it felt harmless… until he turned into this glowing, supernatural-looking figure with dread-like hair. He led them to a group of people who claimed they had “unlocked” immortality and had transcended being human.
The women were given a choice... stay as they are or “ascend.”
One gave in. She looked successful on the outside... standing on a stage, admired, shining... but deep down she was carrying guilt. The other refused and came back scarred and burned, but still alive.
My Takeaway
Not everything that shines is holy. Not every open door is God’s door. Sometimes we’re tempted by the “shortcut” - the offer that looks easier, faster, and more glamorous. But at the end of the day, ANYTHING built outside of God won’t last.
“What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” -Mark 8:36
Dream Two: Penguins in the Backyard
The second dream was the total opposite. I was walking through my neighborhood with the woods and pond, but this time there was ankle-deep water running through the streets. People were outside like it was normal, laughing and walking together. Out of nowhere, penguins started dancing in the water. Like, actual penguins lol.
Everyone just stood around watching, smiling, and soaking it all in.
My Takeaway
God’s presence isn’t always heavy and corrective. Just like dreams, it requires discernment. Sometimes it’s simple and joyful. Sometimes He just wants us to look up, notice the beauty around us, and enjoy His creation. It was a reminder that building with God isn’t all wilderness and warfare. There are seasons of delight, community, and lightness too.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” -Psalm 150:6
Two Dreams, Two Lessons
When I woke up, I felt like God was showing me both sides of the journey:
Be careful of the counterfeit. The “light” that looks good, but isn’t God.
Don’t miss the joy. The beauty in ordinary places where His Spirit flows.
For those of us building businesses, ministries, or creative work in obedience, this message hits home. We’ll be tempted by shiny offers and shortcuts as we build. We’ll also face seasons where it feels heavy. But we can’t forget that God’s presence also brings rest, laughter, and joy!
Reflection on this Dream and Discernment
Where in your life or business do you feel tempted by a shortcut that looks good but doesn’t feel aligned? Where might God be inviting you to pause and enjoy His presence right where you are?
Next Steps
This is why I always go back to the Is This a God Idea? Guide. It helps me test whether I’m building in alignment with God or just chasing something shiny.
Because the truth is...
The world doesn’t need another trend. It needs what God actually told you to build.
