When Growth Doesn’t Feel Like Breakthrough
Last night, while finishing content and scheduling posts with my husband, something unusual happened. Within 15–20 minutes, I gained over 3,000 Instagram followers...
At first, it looked like a breakthrough moment. My husband congratulated me but in my spirit, something didn’t sit right. As I checked the accounts, the vast majority were all spam accounts with low followers, thousands of followings, and fake pictures. It didn’t feel like God’s hand. It felt like distraction.
When I woke up this morning, I received a hostile Facebook message from someone I had recently blocked on Instagram. The timing wasn’t a coincidence. The counterfeit growth and the hostile words lined up too perfectly. It was confirmation that this wasn’t a blessing, it was attack.
Counterfeit Growth vs Kingdom Fruit
The Holy Spirit brought Isaiah 54:17 back to my mind...
“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.”
The weapon had formed, but it could not prosper. And God reminded me of this truth... not all growth is Kingdom growth. Some things multiply like ants - quickly and in large numbers - but their impact doesn’t last. Real fruit takes time, roots, and alignment. Counterfeit growth might look like progress, but it doesn’t carry Kingdom fruit.
How the Enemy Attacks Kingdom Builders
When you’re building in obedience, the enemy will try to frustrate and distract you. Here are a few ways it shows up:
Counterfeit Growth - spam, bots, and empty numbers designed to discourage and distort your reach.
Undermining Words - voices that say things like “God has no place in business” to attack your assignment.
Distraction - shifting your focus from obedience to numbers, fear, or conflict.
How to Stand Firm Against the Schemes
Ephesians 6:12 reminds us that...
"We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against rulers and powers in the spiritual realm."
That means we fight differently as kingdom builders.
Pray over your platforms. Cover your business, your followers, and your content in the blood of Jesus.
Guard your heart. Don’t engage with hostility. Stay rooted in discernment.
Put on your armor. Belt of truth, shield of faith, and sword of the Spirit are non-negotiable. (Ephesians 6:13–17)
Stay obedient. Keep posting, creating, and stewarding in alignment. Obedience frustrates the enemy more than anything else.
Reflection Question
Where might the enemy be trying to distract or discourage you in your assignment? What would it look like to cover that place in prayer and truth instead of fear?
Pray This Prayer Over Your Platforms
Lord, I cover my platforms in the blood of Jesus. Remove every counterfeit follower, distraction, and scheme of the enemy. Fill this space only with real fruit, real people, and real purpose. No weapon formed against this assignment shall prosper. This platform is Yours alone. Amen.
A Final Word
Not everyone will celebrate your light. But that doesn’t mean you dim it. The weapon may form, but it will not prosper. Stay in the Word, keep fasting and praying, and steward your assignment with oil and excellence.
Next Steps for Kingdom Builders
This experience reminded me that not all growth is God growth. Numbers can be counterfeit, but fruit can’t be faked.
