Inspired by “In the Room” by Maverick City Music + Sarah Jakes Roberts’ message on the Hebrew boys and the wilderness

The Silent Transition We Don’t See

As I was in worship today, listening to In the Room by Maverick City Music ft. Tasha Cobbs, I was reminded of something Sarah Jakes Roberts once preached: the silent transition of power.

She spoke about the Hebrew boys on their way to deliverance. They had only ever known lack. At first, they stepped out on full faith, trusting God’s promises.

But as the waiting season stretched on, something shifted. Quietly, subtly, they began trying to take matters into their own hands. They started to reclaim power instead of relying on God’s strength. That’s the silent transition of power: when trust in God fades, and we start to operate in our own strength.

When It Shows Up in Marriage

Sarah Jakes Roberts also shared how this shows up in marriage. The wedding day is full of joy and expectation. But when the wilderness season comes, when things stop looking like the dream, there’s a temptation to take control. To pull power back into our own hands instead of trusting God to sustain the covenant.

Before the divorce, before the breakdown, there’s often this silent transition of power happening between both parties in the background.

Illustration titled “The Silent Transition of Power,” showing two hands in the act of passing a golden baton. The artwork symbolizes unseen shifts of authority, surrender, and control. It reflects the spiritual lesson for Kingdom entrepreneurs about recognizing when power transitions from relying on self to relying on God, a reminder that true alignment in business comes from obedience, not striving.

How This Shows Up in Business

Kingdom entrepreneurs know this tension well. We launch our ideas with so much faith, convinced they’re God-given. But then:

  • Struggles hit.

  • Provision feels delayed.

  • Growth doesn’t come as quickly as we thought.

And quietly, we start slipping into old habits. We go back to strategies that feel predictable, even if we know they won’t yield the fruit we need in this season.

It’s familiar. It’s comfortable. But it’s also a drift away from God’s promises.

What We Must Do Instead

The silent transition of power doesn’t have to end in destruction. The key is recognition. When we realize we’ve shifted into self-reliance, that’s our invitation to return.

  • To pray.

  • To fast.

  • To get back in the Word.

  • To remind ourselves of what God originally said.

Because survival in the wilderness isn’t about never slipping. It’s about knowing when you’ve slipped, and choosing to put the power back in God’s hands.

Scripture to Anchor Us

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” -Proverbs 3:5–6

A Word for Kingdom Builders Trusting God

This is why it’s so important to start with clarity. When you know from the beginning that your idea is God’s idea, you have something to return to in those wilderness moments. You can go back to the original download, the promises, the vision He gave you.

That’s why I created the Is This a God Idea? Guide. Not as a one-time exercise, but as a resource you can return to when you feel yourself drifting.

Because the truth is... every marriage, every ministry, and every business will face wilderness seasons. But the ones who endure are those who remain rooted in God’s promises, even when things don’t look like what they envisioned.

Final Reflection

The silent transition of power doesn’t have to be the end of your story. Recognize it. Return. Remain rooted.

God’s strength is still enough. His promises are still true. And His presence is still in the room!
